The Changes of SOD, Catalase and GPX in Alloxan Induced Diabetic Pregnant Rats, Their Feurses and Neonates.
S J Han, K P Hong, H Y Bae
Abstract
The activites of pulmonary antioxidant enzymes in alloxan-induced diabetic pregnant rats. their fetuses and neonates. The superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase activity were increased in diabetic nonpregnant female rats in comparison with normal control female rats. But the chagnes of antioxidant enzymes in lung of diabetic pregnant rats were not significant. In fetal lung of diabetic rats, the catalase activity decreased significantly, where as the changes of SOD and glutathione peroxidase (GPX) activity were not siginificant in compared with nondiabetic fetal lung. The SOD activities in lung of neonates from diabetic female decreased at day 1 and days 7. In lungs, the catatlase activities decreased significantly at day 1, days 7 and days 14 after birth. In these results decreased activities of catalase and SOD were more susceptible to oxidative lung injury, and these alterations of antioxidant enzymes may be a causative factors of respiratory distress in diabetic neonates.
Key Words: Diabetic rats, Alloxan, Superoxide dismutase ( SOD ), Catalase, Glutathione peroxidase ( GPX )
