Mixed Malignant Transformation Arising in Mature Cystic Teratoma of Ovary.

Abstract

The teratoma is one of the most common ovarian neoplasm, approximately 85~90% of all teratomas are benign and are made up of mature adult tissue, the so-called mature cystic teratoma or dermoid cyst. Malignant transformation is an uncommon complication in a mature cystic teratoma of the ovary, usually being reported in about 2% of cases. Of malignant transformations, squamous cell carcinoma is the most common type and sarcomatous transformation is rare, ocurring in only 7%. Mixed malignant transformation composing of squamous cell component and sarcomatous change is extremely rarer than transformation composing of one compartment and its prognosis is poor. We experienced one case of mixed squamous, adeno-squamous cell carcinoma and angiosarcoma arising in mature cystic teratoma of the ovary and report this case with a brief review of the concerned literature.
