Abstract |
The study subjects were 25 pregnant women with vaginal discharge between 20 weeks and 37 weeks gestational age, who visited Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Hanyang University Hospital from January 1997 to July 1997. The efficacy of fetal fibronectin in vaginal discharge for the detection of rupture of amniotic membrane was compared with vaginal pooling. At our studies, as a predictor of rupture of membrane, the sensitivity and the specificity of the fetal fibronectin were 100% and 94.4%, respectively. Also, the results showed a significantly shorter interval from examination to delivery and a significantly lower 1-minute and 5-minutes Apgar score respectively in women with fibronectin positive-results group than the negative-results group. The presence of fetal fibronectin in vaginal discharge of patients had a useful value as a detection test for premature rupture of amniotic membrane and preterm birth. |
