Abstract
Laminaria tents have been used for the purpose of gradual cerivcal dilatation for more than one hundred years. This method has been found to be relatively safe and is associated with few complications. Laminaria is thought to function as the active ingredient in dilatation by mechanical stretching and biochemical changes in the cervical mucus. During the past several years, several hundreded laminaria tents have been used for this purpose in our hospital without any serious sequelae. We have had 3 complications which consider significant.
