A Case Report: Varix of the Intrafetal Umbilical Vein.
E H Lee, S H Lee, M C Shin
Abstract
Varix of the intrafetal umbilical vein is a rare abnormality showing abnormal focal dilatation of the intraabdominal part of the umbilical vein. In most reported cases the varix had involved the intraamniotic umbilical vein whereas intrafetal varix had remained largely unrecognized. Some authors suggest that varix of the umbilical vein carries increased risk of adverse fetal outcome. We report a case of varix involving the intrafetal umbilical vein detected on prenatal sonography at 36 weeks gestation with the good prognosis.
Key Words: Prenatal ultrasonography, Color Doppler ultrasonography, Umbilical vein varix
